CONSONE STRING QUARTET
Mozart: String Quartet in G major, K156
Carl Czerny: String Quartet in A minor
Schumann: String Quartet in A major Op 41 No 3
Back in the 1950s and 60s we often started the season with a concentrated weekend ‘festival’ of concerts and we are excited to revive the idea this season with MOZARTinMilngavie. Our friends the wonderful Consone String Quartet will return to give two fantastic concerts and lead a day of workshops in a celebration of the string quartet with a Mozartian golden thread running through it.
In their passion for historically-informed performance the Consones always bring fascinating insights to what they play and they begin with a lovely work that the teenage Mozart wrote in Milan. Schumann, whose third quartet combines Mozartian grace and yearning romantic passion, closes the programme, but music-lovers who think Czerny only wrote piano studies will be amazed by the drama and inspired, Mendelssohnian invention of his Quartet in A minor!
