The Braid Society’s 30th Anniversary Exhibition

The Braid Society is an international society of textile enthusiasts, founded in 1993 in the UK. Our passion is ‘narrow wares’, a wonderful array of small textiles including inkle weaving, ply-split braiding, loop manipulation, sprang, fingerweaving, tablet weaving, kumihimo, lucet, passementerie, backstrap weaving, and more.
The members:
Make braids and bands, ‘narrow wares’, as amateurs or professionals
Teach others to make braids and bands
Research braids and bands from both historical and contemporary sources.
Collect braids and bands
Practical activities include:
Showing work in Society exhibitions
An annual sample swap
Try braiding sessions around the U.K. Non-members are welcome.
Visits to places of interest and study days
Organising and attending international conferences every few years.
The Braid Society publishes a quarterly newsletter and an annual journal, Strands.
Members of the Braid Society will be demonstrating a variety of braiding methods each Wednesday and Friday during the exhibition and Saturday 7th October and Saturday 14th October
There will be a bookable ‘Try Braiding Day’ on Sunday 22 October - trybraiding@braidsociety.com

?Celebrating Richard Morbey - An Exhibition of his Sculptures & Drawings
?24 October - 31st October 2023
Richard Morbey (1944 - 2023) organised the life drawing sessions at West Ox Arts for many years and his beautiful drawings, which he regarded as mere studies for sculptures, are worth celebrating. They will be for sale with proceeds going to Cancer research. Most of the sculptures will be on loan to the exhibition.
