Raveningham Sound Walk - Immerse yourself in Nature & New Music

Immerse yourself in sound and nature at the first ever Raveningham Sound Walk. It takes place on the site of the popular Raveningham Sculpture Trail over five weekends from 3rd November to 3rd December.

The Sound Walk has been curated by internationally acclaimed East Anglian Composer and Performer Laura Cannell, who returns home to Norfolk to present a Sound Walk of newly commissioned and site specific music by a hot list composers from the UK and the USA.

Laura asked musical friends from both the UK and the USA to respond to a series of photos of the semi-wild gardens which surround the Elizabethan Farmhouse at The Raveningham Centre. Some of the performers have been to Raveningham before including the cellist Lori Goldston who among many other projects, performances and international touring, was the cellist who toured and performed with Nirvana on their infamous MTV Unplugged show. After meeting in 2017, Lori and Laura toured in the UK together on violin and cello and last summer recorded a duo album in local ancient buildings with incredible acoustics including St Andrew’s Church in Raveningham and St Olaves Priory (their duo album ‘The Deer are Small and the Rabbits are Big’ is out soon - the title coming from a comment on the East Anglian and UK wildlife compared to her home in Seattle). The Welsh harpist Rhodri Davies has also stayed in Raveningham when he and Laura recorded an album and performed at The Aldeburgh Festival in 2012.

The trail also features new works from an incredible array of musical artists who Laura has worked with or admired from afar including: LORI GOLDSTON (Earth/Nirvana), JEM FINER (The Pogues/Longplayer), CATRIN VINCENT (BBC Radio 1 favourite ‘Another Sky’), JON MUELLER (US), THE NEUTRINOS, LOULA YORKE, THE FEATHERED THORNS, SONIC MOTH and NINA BOSNIC (Paper Dollhouse).

You are invited to follow the paths through 3 acres of wild winter gardens and woodland and experience new site specific music.
Open Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 10-3pm between 3rd Nov – 3rd Dec 2023.
