Professional musicians who played at the Coronation of King Charles III will join Romsey Choral Society in a concert at Romsey Abbey at the end of March, as the Monteverdi String Band and Romsey Choral Society perform J.S. Bach’s famous St John Passion on Saturday 23rd March 2024.
Bach's thrilling oratorio for four-part choir, six soloists and orchestra was first heard exactly 300 years ago in Leipzig, Germany and is well-known for its beauty, urgency and drama in conveying the Passion story through music and song.
Recognised as one of Hampshire's most interesting and vibrant choral groups, Romsey Choral Society (RCS) numbers around 80 singers from across the county and beyond. The Monteverdi String Band specialises in performing early music on period instruments modelled on originals from the 1600s, providing a particularly authentic sound. Acclaimed conductor Richard Pearce will bring the groups together for this landmark performance.
