Cambridge care home invites local community to special event

A care home in Cambridge is inviting the local community to relax and unwind with a special music therapy session.

Every first and third Saturday of the month, from 2pm-2.30pm, Care UK’s Heathlands House, on Bullen Close, for a World Music and Mindfulness session with NHS Music Therapist, Sreeraj.

The session will offer older people, including those living with dementia and their carers, an opportunity to experience a taster of music therapy sessions on offer at Heathlands House, and a chance to learn more about the associated benefits. Attendees will be able to experience instruments from around the world, feeling the different sounds and sensations.

The home’s team, who have extensive experience in caring for older people, will also be on hand to share tips and advice for supporting a loved one living with dementia.

Razvan Stanbeca, Home Manager at Heathlands House, said: “Here at Heathlands House, we know how beneficial music therapy can be for older people – especially those living with dementia.

“Music therapy has been shown to improve mood and wellbeing, offering a way for individuals to express themselves. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for social interaction, bringing people together to bond over shared interests and fond memories of music-related experiences – from attending gigs, to concerts and festivals.

“We’re delighted to be welcoming Sreeraj and inviting the community to experience a taster of life here at Heathlands House!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Heathlands House incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities both indoors and out. The layout of the building has been configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge and dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
