Kidnap
Samia Rida writes and stars in a deeply personal yet darkly comic look based on the true local story of her kidnap to Saudi Arabia as a child by her father.

1980 and Samia and her siblings have been taken from the family home in Chiswick to Saudi Arabia by their father. However, after failing to return after an access visit, a high court judge orders Samia’s fathers arrest and a nationwide air and sea port watch is put in place.
Kidnap by Samia Rida outlines the details leading up to the event and is a darkly comic monologue on multiculturalism, disability, trauma, mental health and how kidnap can involve a swimming pool.
Samia is a London-born screenwriter of Saudi/Welsh heritage who has been selected in recent years for both the WFTV Four Nations Mentoring Scheme and the BBC Writersroom London Voices group. Her writing and performing often explores her complex heritage and mines, to darkly comic effect, autobiographical material. She has been mentored as an actor/writer by comedy producer Gareth Edwards, with whom she has also developed scripts; and recent work has been optioned by Fulwell 73 and Vox Pictures.
