Heritage Open Day: The Grade 1 late 14th century church of St Michael the Archangel (Including the North Porch, opened especially for the event) will be available for visitors to explore. The church of St Michael the Archangel has soared above Beccles and the surrounding landscape since the late 1300s, its size reflecting the importance of Beccles as the third town of Suffolk when it was built. The South Porch is an architectural gem; and the secular roof bosses of the North Porch, not usually open to visitors, are also worth seeing. Display boards and stands give much information about the building and some people associated with it, including the parents of Lord Nelson.
