Meet LADIA - the Lowestoft And District Independent Archive
Heritage Open Day: A unique opportunity to see a small sampling of some of the growing collection of historic documents, maps and images currently held by the new community archives group, LADIA, in Lowestoft. The Lowestoft And District Independent Archives group was founded in 2022 in the wake of the decision by Suffolk County Council to close their Lowestoft Record Office branch and remove all of the original archives to Ipswich. Six local history enthusiasts felt this was unacceptable and have established a viable alternative at the Old Law courts Buildings in Lowestoft, where the former Magistrates Courts rolling archives room now serves as a repository for a treasure trove of local historic documents, maps and images.
