Heritage Open Day: Since 1753, 'Dead Man's Mile' was the much-traveled funeral procession route from Haslar RN Hospital to the nearby cemetery. This talk and guided tour explore the history and the beauty of this site... Gather in the Chapel to first enjoy a brief oral history of Haslar Hospital and the origins of its cemeteries from the opening of the Hospital to the present day, with photographs displayed in the mortuary chapel. Next, take an informative walk through the cemetery where the guide will detail the many historic events and stories linking the listed monuments and graves, the Royal Navy, and Gosport.
