St. Mary's Parish Church. West Horsley. Surrey: A Pilgrimage through the Centuries...

Heritage Open Day: Our village church was built in 1030 AD. Come and explore the eventful journey. St. Mary's pilgrimage travels through a thousand years of history, illustrated through architecture, 12th century wall paintings and stained glass windows, memorials, and exciting plans for the future. St. Walter Raleigh's head is buried in the church and there is a striking 12th century wall painting of St. Christopher, patron saint of pilgrims. The life-sized effigy adorning the tomb of Ralph de Berners is is the earliest carved representation of a priest in Surrey. Help will be on hand to guide visitors through their journey.
There will be a quiz for children and tea and cakes for all.
