Lydney Skiff Project

Heritage Open Day: Explore the work of a community based group building a skiff to row on the Severn. Learn about traditional boat building in the Forest of Dean. The Lydney Skiff team, headed by Dave Eatwell has been working since 2023 to construct the hull of the 22 foot rowing boat. It accommodates four rower and is based on the St Ayles skiff which was first developed by the Scottish Fisheries Museum and used by the Scottish Rowing Association.
As well as using the skiff on the Lydney canal and the River Severn, the team are hoping to take part in the Great River Race on the Thames in the autumn.
