FOWC: Making Connections

Heritage Open Day: Who inspired Wombwell's street names? When did the town bid farewell to its trams, buses, and railways? Buckle up, time travellers! We're diving back into the past to unveil Wombwell's fascinating history! The Friends of Wombwell Cemetery are hosting a special Heritage Open Days event, focusing on this year's theme of Routes, Networks and Connections. We'll be taking a deep dive into Wombwell's street names and who inspired them, and travelling back in time to rediscover Wombwell's lost train station, trams and buses. We'll also be sharing information about our fantastic new project at Wentworth Castle Gardens, and opening up our database for you to find your ancestors who are buried in Wombwell Cemetery. Join the Friends, take a self-guided walk around the cemetery, visit our Gothic chapels, and have a chat and a brew with us for a weekend of heritage delights.
