This versatile chamber choir is going for a jazzy feel this time with a concert celebrating the 80th birthday of composer Sir John Rutter. The event showcases a broad range of Rutter's music and that of his friends and contemporaries, George Shearing and Iain Farrington.
Rutter's Birthday Madrigals and his Three Shakespeare Songs are featured along with the moving piece, I Would be True, and his contrasting Heavenly Aeroplane with its foot-tapping American influences.
The choir will also sing Rutter's arrangements of Mancini's Moon River and Hoagy Carmichael's Skylark. Also featured are Shearing's Songs and Sonnets and Farrington's wildly upbeat Jazz Cantata, Then Sing We All.
New Sussex Singers is conducted by Seb Charlesworth and the choir will be accompanied by a jazz trio. The band will play from 6pm so that guests can enjoy a glass of wine and listen to live music before the main concert begins at 7pm.
