On Saturday 5th July, 7.30pm, our choir will be performing a varied programme of favourite choral works for our summer concert, in St Andrew’s church, Caversham.
This ranges from famous opera choruses by Wagner, Rossini, Handel, Verdi and Leoncavallo to beautiful European sacred music including Cantique de Jean Racine by Faure, Locus Iste by Bruckner, O salutaris Hostia by Rossini and Grieg’s Ave maris stella.
We will also be performing some of the Seven Poems of Robert Bridges set to music by Gerald Finzi (1901-1956). Completed in 1939 they include I praise the tender flower and My spirit sang all day. These are all part songs which have been widely praised for their beautiful and evocative interpretation of Bridges' poetry, particularly in their unique blend of ‘Englishness’ and emotional depth.
We are delighted to welcome, as our guest, the guitarist Vincent Lindsey-Clark.
Our concert will therefore be a performance full of memorable melodies which aims to provide something for everyone.
