A unique collection of artefacts discovered at Canons Ashby over the years will be on display in the church during this year’s Festival of Archaeology. The collection, mostly of stonework, helps tell the story of the site from its 12th-century origins as a medieval monastic complex through to the period of the current Elizabethan house and beyond. The National Trust’s archaeologist will be on hand to explain more about what we can learn from these artefacts and how they open up wider stories about Canons Ashby’s fascinating past.
This activity, which will include opportunities to handle and examine some of the historic artefacts, will be set in the historic church, which has its origins as part of the medieval Augustinian priory. Come along and explore these fascinating clues to the past.
