Land of Oak & Iron are excited that the fabulous Time Bandits are returning with their living history event – helping to tell the story of the end of the Second World War!
Their team will tell you about the momentous events, using first person narrative, survivor testimony, prose and verse, together with an extensive handling collection.
‘On 8th May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill appeared in front of rapturous crowds in London to announce that the Second World War in Europe was over!
After nearly six years of war, Western Europe was freed from tyranny, but it was over three months later that the Prime Minister was able to advise that the War in the Far East, which began with Pearl Harbour in December 1941, was also over following Japan’s unconditional surrender.
The War was won but at huge cost; Britain had suffered 384,000 military casualties with the additional loss of 67,000 civilians.
What happened then resonates now. It was 80 years ago and every day the band of survivors diminishes. This is their story and it is our story, for without them we could never enjoy the freedoms that we have. Lest we forget…’
