Honestly -a new play about a compulsive liar. All true...... perhaps

Honestly, a new play aboutacompulsive liaris comingto Hunmanby community Centre on Saturday 11th October at 19.30.

Emma is a young psychologist creating a pre-sentencing report on Chloe, a woman of similar age. Chloe lies compulsively and Emma’s assessment will determine whether she is identified as villain or victim, deserving support or an extended sentence for crimes she has already admitted to. Chloe has lived numerous other lives - more than anyone knows - and many are shared with the audience.
Emma is at the start of her career, challenged and feeling alone, but called upon to be in control, faced with an impenetrable cloud of lies. Inevitably, her self-doubt grows, shared only with friend Ruth, the one stabilising factor in her life. Conversely, Chloe’s confidence grows as she throws down challenge after challenge. What does honesty mean What value do we place upon it in the twenty first century Both dark and humorous, the play explores lies and deceptions as the characters look for their own versions of truth.
“You know, there's something really tricky about truth, isn't there In theory, it's simple: it’s the reality of what is happening, what’s been said, what’s been done. Words and actions don’t always match up, what then Much easier to live inside a version of the truth that’s comfortable, that feels safer”.
“We are particularly excited to have created the character of Chloe and to have explored the many guises she takes on. In Killing Eve, there was a huge fascination, attraction and almost sympathy for Villanelle, a character that had no discernibly positive characteristics. Though quite different, Chloe is entirely engaging with a way of life that breaks social norms, openly and with enthusiasm”.
