Bucks Pottery and Sculpture Society meeting

In this month's meeting of the Bucks Pottery and Sculpture Society our guest speaker will be local potter and long time member Elaine Wells.
Elaine was first inspired to try pottery by the book associated with the BBC programme 'The Craft of The Potter' - in 1991 she enrolled in a local evening class and, after just a few sessions, she was hooked! An out of character decision to apply for series 2 of The Great Pottery Throwdown resulted in a place on the show and subsequently an internship with Kate Malone. This in turn helped with and inspired her application to the newly formed Clay College in Stoke on Trent which was to teach the core, fundamental skills necessary to become a studio potter. She graduated in 2019 and continued at Clay College to assist with the new intake of students.
Her current focus is to utilise simplistic contemporary forms, exploring the interaction between inclusions and mark making with simple ash and white glazes. Her aim is to produce pots that are appealing while remaining functional. Examples of her work can be seen at www.elainewellspotter.co.uk
Elaine will be bringing her wheel and demonstrating throwing techniques (such as making bottle and lidded forms). This is a great opportunity for all who use a potters wheel to watch and learn and ask questions.
The meeting will be held at Little Kingshill Village Hall on Friday 29th August from 2-4pm. For more information about the Society see our website www.buckspotters.com - we are also on Facebook and Instagram.
