Schools of Skipton Guided Walk

Heritage Open Day: Skipton has numerous buildings which were schools between the 1600s and the 1800s and this tour will visit a selection of these with some stories about the buildings and those connected to them. The tour will look at old school buildings along Otley Street and Newmarket Street in the centre of Skipton with a brief introduction to the schools and some people connected to them, from the better-known such as Canon Ermysted, the Petyt brothers and Rudyard Kipling to some lesser known, such as an archbishop of Canterbury's wife and an ancestor of Ernest Shackleton. The walk will include 6 former schools along Otley Street and 5 former schools in Newmarket Street.
