Heritage Open Day: The Goodwin Sands Conservation Trust's key aim is to raise public awareness of the importance and significance of the Sands, not only as part of our national maritime heritage and marine environment but also as a natural sea defence. The Trust’s storyboard exhibition tells the story of the Sands from Roman times to the present day and beyond.
From the ecology & environment of the unique Sands to their importance as a historical resting place of thousands of ships and mariners, this exhibition gives a broad flavour of their cultural heritage and their international importance.
The exhibition hopes to foster a greater understanding of the Goodwins' significance. From the display we hope people will learn to value and care for this wild and exceptional place.
