Upton House and Gardens

Heritage Open Day: Discover Upton House and Gardens, the country house and weekend retreat, where 2nd Viscount Bearsted, Walter Samuel, created one of the finest art collections in twentieth-century Britain. Immerse yourself in a remarkable range of world-class paintings, from Stubbs and Hogarth to Bosch and El Greco; see the porcelain and take a stroll in the gardens. Inside, the house was extensively remodelled in the 1920s by Lord and Lady Bearsted to create a series of modern galleries to display one of the most significant private collections of European art assembled in twentieth-century Britain. No longer used as a home, Upton House is now a showcase for its fabulous collection of paintings and porcelain on the ground and lower ground floors.
