Heritage Open Day: The church was built in 1929 and designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, one of Britain's greatest 20th-century architects, inspired by basilicas in Rome. Scott regarded it as his 'little gem'. It is grade 2* listed. Admirers of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott's work, such as Liverpool Cathedral, Battersea Power Station, the red telephone-box, will see his characteristic combination of traditional design in this early Christian basilica church; from the modern techniques, such as the unique ruboleum floor with Cosmatesque 12-13th-century patterns, and an arts-and-crafts attention to detail seen in the ironwork and wood and details, are a sight to behold. The church has been restored in preparation for its centenary in 2029.
