Steaming at Markfield Beam Engine & Museum

Heritage Open Day: Explore Tottenham's hidden history with two special steamings at this remarkable 1888 former sewage pumping engine. Steaming 14 and 21 September (12.30-1.15pm and 2.30- 3.15pm). Markfield Beam Engine Museum tells a fascinating public health story.

Featuring a working Victorian steam engine this family friendly museum is a great way to inspire young engineers! We have free kids activities and guided tours. We will be offering tours of the wider site exploring the surprising features of Markfield Park including former settlement tanks and filter beds.

Our beautiful 1888 beam engine was part of a sewage treatment works that saved thousands of lives in Tottenham. Our museum celebrates the development of sanitation, an important but often overlooked part of history. The engine itself is a masterpiece of Victorian engineering that is still fully functional today.
