Heritage Open Day: An Anglo-Saxon themed family event to commemorate the 1200th anniversary of the Battle of Ellendune. This event will showcase various aspects of Anglo- Saxon life such as crafts, weaving and spinning, food and medicine, bees and honey and the history of the Battle of Ellendune itself. Local history groups and a local archaeology group will also be present. There will be ferrets and a forge as well as opportunities for children to work with clay and make brooches. It is free at point of entry and all activities mentioned above are free of charge. Visitors will need to pay for the hog roast and beer tent- if they so wish. There will also be other items for sale such as Anglo-Saxon style jewellery.
