Bond’s Hospital

Heritage Open Day: Grade II Listed Building with section of the City Wall in it's garden, provides sheltered accommodation for the elderly. Bond’s Hospital was the first of the two ancient Almshouses to be built in Coventry, and it forms the northern side of what is still a very picturesque quadrangle. Thomas Bond, who was Mayor of Coventry in 1497, established and endowed the Almshouse in his Will of 1506 for ten poor men who were members of the Holy Trinity Guild and a woman to act as housekeeper.

The basis structure of the building is unchanged but both the interior and exterior were heavily restored in the 19th century after a period of considerable neglect. The Trustees Board Room formed during the restoration is still in regular use today and Bond’s Hospital is now home to 45 residents.
