Moorlands School

Heritage Open Day: Moorlands School was established in 1898 and in the 1960s moved to its current site - Fox Hill - which was built as the family home for William Tetley (son of the brewer Joshua) and designed by George Corson. Fox Hill was designed by the noted Leeds architect George Corson for William Tetley and his large family. When built, the house had open views towards Adel Beck and extensive views over the surrounding countryside from the top of the impressive tower at the front of the building. Some of the sandstone was quarried on site and the rest came from the nearby Weetwood Quarry. Some original features remain, and there are copies of the original architect's plans to look at. Nowadays the site is a green haven, surrounded by the mature woodland of The Hollies and Meanwood Valley Trail. Moorlands School also has an extensive archive of its history and photographs, which will be on display.
