Heritage Open Day: How do you build a cemetery? We'll show you the step-by-step journey of how Wombwell Cemetery came to be, including the acquisition of the land, the construction of the gothic chapels, the patchwork of extensions, and the recent conservation efforts. “For some years, the want of a cemetery in Wombwell has been greatly felt. The only burial-place for the township is at Darfield. The parish now numbers over 5,000 and is rapidly increasing. The Board of Health have taken the matter up, and the want is about to be supplied.â€
