Operation Zebra - How Minsmere Nature Reserve was Built

Heritage Open Day: An exhibition detailing the foundation on Minsmere as a Nature Reserve from the end of the second world war onwards. During the Second World War, the sluice gates on the Minsmere River were opened to create natural defenses against potential invasion. What began as a wartime strategy unexpectedly paved the way for the return of the avocet to the UK - and laid the foundations for the RSPB's flagship nature reserve.

Join us for a two-day exhibition in the Discovery Centre to explore the fascinating history behind the creation of Minsmere. Learn how a moment of necessity became a legacy of conservation.
