Lydford Gorge

Heritage Open Day: Explore this steep-sided river gorge, filled with temperate rainforest, carved into the western edge of Dartmoor. Descend into the Devil's Cauldron pothole on a platform over the water, and take in the 30-meter-high Whitelady Waterfall. There are two walking trails at Lydford Gorge. The Waterfall trail takes in Whitelady Waterfall, which cascades down a sheer rock face into the gorge, on a one hour circular walk - steep slopes and uneven ground. The Devil's Cauldron trail takes you into the deepest part of the gorge on a 45 minute circular walk, where the river is forced through narrow gaps in the rock and boils in the Devil's Cauldron pothole - steps, and uneven surfaces which can be slippery even when dry. You could also link these two trails together with the Lyd Link path, a two-way route through the woodland, about 45 minutes one-way with steps, narrow paths, steep slopes and uneven surfaces.
