Coventry Cathedral opens the doors to Wyley Chapel

Heritage Open Day: The Wyley Chapel survived the bombing of Coventry Cathedral during the Blitz, open between 15th and 19th September you can visit the Chapel with a short talk and audio visual presentation on the history of the Chapel. The Wyley Chapel was used during WW2 as an air raid shelter, where people hid during the fateful night of the Blitz. Not usually open to the public except for occasional events, during Heritage Open Days visitors will have the opportunity to visit the Chapel, which was famously where Provost Dick Howard gave the Christmas Day service which was broadcast around the world live on BBC radio on 25 December 1940, just weeks after the cathedral had been bombed by German bombs. Provost Howard called for forgiveness, as well as for peace and reconciliation, words which would be immortalised and forever linked to our city.
