Burton Mill

Heritage Open Day: Burton Mill is a working watermill producing stoneground flour and hydro-electricity. Visitors will see water-powered flour milling and dressing and other heritage machinery. There is a small exhibition of interesting historical artefacts and photos. Burton Mill dates from 1790 and milled flour until around 1900 after when it continued to operate as a sawmill and hydro power generator. Milling restarted for a few years in the 1980s. After recent restoration work all is once again working and producing wholemeal and white bread flour to support our local shops and businesses.

Flour milling will take place on both open days. You will also see the 1929 Gilkes turbine powering the millstones, a flour dresser and an 1880s roller mill alongside electricity generation.
