Heritage Open Day: The date is 1st December 1170, Thomas Becket and four knights arrive by ship in Sandwich. See how his arrival plays out and learn more about his journey to Canterbury. Join us at the Medieval Centre & Quayside in Sandwich for a history lesson with a difference. Meet William de Tracy, Reginald FitzUrse, Hugh de Morville, Richard le Breton and Thomas Becket as they disembarks from the ship. Watch the story unfold as Becket meets local people who bid him farewell.
The Nicholas (ship) will also be open to the public leading up to and after the timed performances. Meet the reenactors, take photos and learn more about the life and death of Thomas Becket.
