The historic church of St. Peter & St. Paul at Dymchurch, Romney Marsh

Heritage Open Day: This ancient church is a time-capsule of over 900 years of history, with Norman decorative features aplenty and associations to Russell Thorndike's fictional smuggler Dr. Syn The Scarecrow. Church volunteers will be available to show visitors around. St. Peter and St. Paul's Church sits at the heart of a vibrant seaside village which has many interesting attractions, including a heritage trail and a beach. A church has existed at Dymchurch since Saxon times and over 900 years of history can be traced through its features, which include beautiful Norman zigzag mouldings and medieval scratch dials.

The village has strong associations with smuggling, which was once rife on Romney Marsh. The church inspired Russell Thorndike to create fictional character Dr.
