Heritage Open Day: The Parish Church has stood on the hill overlooking the town for well over 1000 years. Records of vicars go back 830 years. An illustrated booklet is available to purchase. Built and rebuilt over the generations, it has stonework dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries. See the splendid stained glass windows, including the 'Faith, Hope and Charity' window by Edward Burne-Jones. Thirties stage and film star, Gracie Fields, was baptised in 1898 in the 13th century font. Furniture and carvings have connections with the Byron family, Lords of the Manor, until the poet Lord Byron sold out in the 1800s. This is a family-friendly venue, suitable for all ages.
