St John The Evangelist Church

Heritage Open Day: The Church in The Walks. Open from 1200.

In 1843 John Motteux, then the owner of Sandringham, was forbidden to sit in a pew at St Nicholas’ Chapel because he had not paid for it. He therefore offered £1,000 for a new church where seats would be free. The building was designed by Victorian architect Anthony Salvin in the Early English style, and was completed in 1846. St John’s was the first Anglican church built in King’s Lynn since the Reformation, and contains interesting corbels, stained windows and organ.

Refreshments will be available.
