Heritage Open Day: Visit Wells' Hidden Treasure - the Catholic Church built for the Carmelites nearly 150 years ago. Find out why it is the only L-shaped church in Wells. The Bishop of Plymouth invited Carmelite nuns - located next to a noisy pub - to set up home in the quieter Wells. The land was secretly purchased and the church building started in 1877. Visit the church with our knowledgeable guides, or just walk around by yourselves, and find out why it has an unusual L-shape. Tea and cakes will be available.
