Heritage Open Day: Aviation historian Bob Collis hosts a fascinating walk & talk detailing how Lowestoft Railway Station and its surrounds were affected by, and narrowly survived, enemy bombing during the First and Second World Wars. Lowestoft's iconic railway station, built in 1855 is a rare survivor and narrowly escaped total destruction in both the Great War and World War 2. The former Great Eastern Railway Stables are believed to be the first railway building in the country to be bombed by a Zeppelin Air Raid in 1915 and during World War 2, prominent buildings including the former Imperial Hotel opposite were badly damaged. Through Bob's detailed research he will share some fascinating stories and debunk some local myths about how the station and its surrounds were affected. New for 2025, details of the Lattens Timber Yard fire from 1915 and WW2 damage to the Port House.
