St Thomas's Church Huddersfield

Heritage Open Day: Church will be open on Saturday 13 September 10.00 - 16.00 and Sunday 14 September 12.00 - 16.00 St Thomas's church was consecrated in 1859 and was designed by the prolific Victorian architect Sir George Gilbert Scott. It was built at the expense of woollen manufacturers Thomas John and Joseph Starkey on a site opposite their extensive mill complex (long since demolished) on Manchester road at Longroyd Bridge.
Stained glass windows by Clayton and Bell with one window by Kemp. War memorials by Sir Charles Nicholson inside and outside the church.
In 1990 the interior of the church was imaginatively re-ordered to create social spaces and a separate worship area. It is hoped that this will be upgraded in the near future.
There will be displays about the history and architecture of the church together with free leaflets along with vestments and liturgical items both traditional and contemporary. Tea and coffee will be available.
