Heritage Open Day: Access to the best preserved example of a Coastal WWII Pillbox in West Sussex. The WWII Type 26 Pillbox on the coast at Ferring in West Sussex is a fairly unique remnant of the Coastal Crust Defences in West Sussex during WWII. It has recently been reopened and improvements made to the interior and the Southern Aperture opened to enable full access for the first time since the 1970s.
The tours of the interior of the pillbox will be supported by a static display of Ferring Village during WWII and life on the Home Front as well as talks on the general subject.
This will be a unique opportunity to see a pillbox in the same state as it was when it was finally vacated in 1945 together with the opportunity to see the same view as the occupants did during wartime.
