Thorington Hall and Thorington Lodge

Heritage Open Day: Thorington Hall is a stunning timber framed farmhouse in the heart of the Dedham Vale. Thorington Hall is an enchanting, rambling farmhouse built around 1600. It has a traditional oak frame and gabled exterior and nestles in the heart of the Stour Valley near the village of Stoke by Nayland. When you visit, you can explore the house and garden, marvelling at the beautifully carved oak staircase and the enormous six-flued chimney stack. Ask the room stewards to show the secret passage from the main hall and discover the priest's hole hidden behind the panelling in one of the bedrooms. Thorington Lodge is an attached timber framed cottage and one of the oldest parts of the building. Both properties are surrounded by a large peaceful garden with a nuttery and fruit trees. The properties are normally let as a National Trust holiday homes, so this is a rare chance to look around and discover their secrets.
