Heritage Open Day: Completed in 1610, Prescot Parish Church - is the 4th church to stand on this site since the 15th century. Built in local red sandstone, it replaced a previous structure which was so dilapidated that it was likely to fall down. The Parish Church of St Mary, the only Grade I listed building in Knowsley, boasts a very fine Jacobean roof, Saxon font, ancient oak chest and Parish registers that date from 1573. The remains of an earlier Chantry Chapel dated around 1400 can be seen, which is still in use today. One notable addition since the 1610 build is the fine tower with a peal of 8 bells built in 1729. St Mary's is steeped in history and is certainly well worth a visit.
