Birkheads Secret Garden
Heritage Open Day: Visit Birkheads Secret Gardens to see the transformation of a former opencast mining site. The completed restoration is now a rural haven for wildlife, locals & international tourist attraction. Sept. 12-14th and Sept.18th-21st 1100-1500. The Royal Horticultural Society Partner Garden for North of England & N. Ireland Award Winner. Votes were submitted by visitors: 'It's a rural cottage garden with a wow factor of something of interest around every corner.' 'We stop there every time we head north or south on holiday to explore the gardens, see their new developments, have delicious food & we're suitably chilled before re-joining the A1(M) for the remainder of our journey.' Locals say it's their 'Happy Place'.
