St. Swithun’s Church

Heritage Open Day: A church in Hempsted built and dedicated to St Swithun. A Church has existed in Hempsted from 826 A.D. and the 12th Century Norman font was in the original church. The present church is mid-15th century and extensive renovations took place in 1885 with the addition of an extra bell, monuments and stained glass. In the well-kept Churchyard is The Cavaliers Tomb of Captain John Freeman who was slain at the siege of Gloucester in 1643 A.D.
