Heritage Open Day: Built in 1911, the Electric Palace in Harwich is one of the earliest purpose built cinemas to survive in the UK. As well as a stunning building to admire, the cinema still offers regular film screening's at weekends and Monday 's. As part of our next National Lottery Heritage Funded (NLHF) project, preserving & digitalising our archives, we would like to record snippets of people telling us their memories of the Electric Palace and Harwich. There will be some displays of photo's and letter's from our archives to view and help with the reminiscing. Of particular interest is our collection of original plans showing the vision from young architect Harold Hooper in the design of this historic cinema.
