Electric Wonderland? Women and the 1930s Modern Home by Sarah Yates

Heritage Open Day: Join the Women's Engineering Society as they continue the Electric Dreams Festival celebrating the formation of the Electrical Association for Women 101 years ago. Organised in conjunction with M Shed and Bristol Museums In the early 20th century, a group of pioneering women campaigned and demonstrated in practical ways how new technology could improve the lives and homes of all women. The newly established Women’s Engineering Society and the Electrical Association for Women sought to harness opportunities provided by electricity to make women’s lives better, placing their needs, especially in the home, at the centre of this massive technological and social shift.

Join WES, and architectural historian, Sarah Yates at M Shed, Bristol, as we celebrate the role of the Electrical Association for Women and reflect on how electricity impacts our everyday lives in the past, today and the future.
