Heritage Open Day: As part of 80th VE/VJ commemorations learn about the Guide International Service (G.I.S.); Guide leaders who formed an Army of Goodwill, amongst the first relief workers into Europe, including Bergen-Belsen, and Malaya at the end of World War II. An opportunity to find out more about what the Girl Guides did during World War II, and particularly as part of the Guide International Service. (the G.I.S.). Members were concerned about the welfare of women and children particularly at the end of the war and therefore were preparing during tough training camps so they could cope with whatever challenges lay ahead as they entered war torn areas. Come and see the kit that the members took with them, and find out some of their stories through photographs and the written word.
