Heritage Open Day: 2 Vicar Road was a corner shop owned by Maurice Dobson. On his death, he left the building to the people of Darfield and in 2000, it was opened as a museum. To celebrate 25 years, we show how the conversion to museum and tea room was achieved. The building at 2 Vicar Road, which is a restored Yeoman's residence, was a popular village corner shop, owned by Maurice and his partner Fred Halliday. When Maurice retired in 1977 aged 65, he closed the shop, built an extension to the rear (now the tea room), and started his collection of antiques. After his death and the will was finalised, a group of seven men set up the Darfield Area Amenity Society and began the long process of funding and converting the premises into a museum, as per Maurice's wishes.
