Heritage Open Day: A celebration of the area's rich maritime heritage. Enjoy extensive displays and much more in this ingeniously laid-out museum. Lowestoft Maritime Museum charts the town's maritime story through a formidable collection of displays featuring fleets of model boats, photographs and objects, atmospheric recreations of scenes from the past, and hands-on activities for all ages. There is a small cinema showing archived films, a wheelhouse, a recreation of Sir Christopher Cockerell's workshop, in which he invented the hovercraft, The Prunier Trophy, a vast art collection, trails for children, and much more. Every picture and object tells a story and museum volunteers are always ready to offer information and listen to visitors' reminiscences that add to their knowledge.
