Heritage Open Day: Work in Progress restoring an old allotment site/orchard by Coventry Tree Wardens. The site was completely neglected and overgrown but it has gradually been cleared, paths re-instated, trees planted and an outdoor classroom established. The site was part of ‘Kings Fields’ so called it is said because it was here where King Richard II set up his camp prior to the battle of Gosford Green.
It appears on maps dated around 1860 when the City Fathers established Kings Fields Gardens, these were allotments which were for the use of Freemen of the City.
