Heritage Open Day: Bankfield Museum was the former home of local textile manufacturer Edward Akroyd and his wife Elizabeth and became a free museum for the people of Halifax in 1887 following Edward's death. Bankfield Museum will be opening up to visitors on Sunday 8th September to give visitors to the area an opportunity to step inside the grand italianate mansion and enjoy the variety of its exhibitions programme, Costume Drama, located in the Fashion Gallery, an exhibition that brings together a host of costumes from the world of TV and film costume drama, Let's go Shopping! a nostalgic glimpse into the Calderdale high street of yesterday, Animals in Art featuring artworks from Calderale's collections and HERDS, an exhibition of work by local school children looking at the challenges animals are facing due to climate change.
